Welcome to Sydney Gaymers: news!

End of Year Party 2020

December 7, 2020

It's been a long year, it's been a short year.

Sydney Gaymers, like many of us, have had ups and downs in 2020. For a little while, in the face of uncertainty, we put everything on pause. We wondered, like many of you, what was to come next.

A lot of things were going on in the background: we had new projects come and go, massive changes in how we did certain things, and even experiments around online engagement. We looked at so many different formats to keep Gaymers alive. And thanks to our community, we pulled through.

Our first face to face event, since Mardi Gras, was the End of Year Party. How incredible is it to think that the year is almost over! In just a matter of days, we'll be in 2021. In our first face to face event since Iso, we had to have a smaller group in order adhere to COVID regulations. Together we all met in this brand new space.

And the stories that came from this were incredible. We heard so many things from our attendees about their own ups and downs, and that we were all only too keen to see each other again.

We welcomed Asuma Jender back to Gaymers. She put on an incredible set of performances. And in the evening, we played Among Us, Jackbox and Super Smash -- keeping hand sanitisers handy where contact was made with certain objects.

But we also said goodbye to one of our long-standing admins, Peak. Having served 8 years with Gaymers, it was time for Peak to pursue other things. He received a handmade plaque that evening, commemorating his service and the invaluable contributions he made to Sydney Gaymers. We wish him all the best for the future.

In other news I think we're ready again. 2020 was tough, but us, all of us, are tougher. We're ready for 2021. New decade, new Gaymers.

Let's do this.
